CHIMEK - Fremantle Market

Fremantle markets have definitely revamped itself, the shops keep getting more interesting and you can find some very good food stalls there too! Some of my favourites include the honey cake and CHIMEK's famous black burger.
A typical feast will include the burger, korean gochujang chicken wings and turkish gozleme. Remember to put on the disposable gloves provided so you don't dirty your fingers! Kinda looks stupid but its actually a very clever idea.

Red Spoon Frozen Yoghurt

so my obsession with frozen yoghurt continues...

so excited to see red spoon sticking out of the crowd in fremantle!

i love the design of the shop with artificial lawn and deck chairs, very casual yet funky

we get to try the flavours first before we choose what flavour we want
apparently it is low fat too!

i got the peach one with raspberry and meringue
my partner got the original one
both were so good!
it tastes a bit sour just like a yoghurt, but the texture was soft like a soft-serve icecream, and i loved the cup!
always a good dessert after dinner in fremantle :)
it was really good

Hush Espresso

I wanted a quiet relaxing Sunday afternoon so I decided to check out Hush Espresso. This was my first time there and I've always walked past it but never went in as i felt this place looked a bit 'too cool'
with its very contemporary and modern design. Behind that modern exterior (unlike the cosy cafes in freo) this place is really very HUSH! Very quiet and peaceful place, i totally fell in love with this cafe

Looked into our combined wallets and realised we only had $4 in cash. Cant be bothered to ask if eftpos was available, maybe they do accept, but too l.a.z.y. (i hate it when places dont accept eftpos!) so we just ordered one cup of latte. my partner doesnt drink coffee anyways, yay for me.
Latte - $3.80

very very nice presentation! heart designed frothing served by the barista. So pretty i didnt want to stir my sugar in and ruined it.
Just like the reviews online, the coffee here was indeed good. No bitter aftertaste, they use a synesso machine, perfect combination of coffee and milk without comprising on the aroma/taste of the coffee.

I think this is a great place for a caffeine fix and to hang out with friends and family. It is spacious and is in the heart of fremantle. Hush espresso serves breakfast all day as well. I will return next time for their coffee and breakfast

Perth - Fremantle Organic Donuts

Finally got to try the Fremantle Organic Donuts as my 'touristy cousin' bought one. I did not try one previously as it is organic, and to me healthy food = not as tasty

OMG but i cannot get enough of these warm big fluffy sugary donuts!!!!!
The dough is made to perfection, it is very fluffy yet firm - get what i mean?
Very delicious, must try it yourself! We had to go back to fremantle 3 weeks in a row just to get this donut as my cousin will be returning home, and will not be in perth anymore. That is how much we liked it. Not as sweet as Krispy Kreme and being organic and stuff, makes you feel better about yourself after you eat it. hahaha
I only tried the traditional one, as i am on a diet so less calories for me!
sooo good and fresh, yums!

Fremantle - Soho Burger

I have walked past Soho Burger a couple of times in Fremantle and I decided to give it a try! The interior is very modern and inviting. Cut the long story short, my main aim was to try their burgers which are the restaurant's specialty.

Bowl of chips with homemade tomato ketchup $7
Ordered chips to go with the burgers. The serving was so generous we could not finish it. I have not tried chips that taste like that, they are apparently double fried, but it doesnt taste oily at all. In fact they are crispy, a bit dry and crumbly, tastes like it has been air fried or something. Not bad!

Beef and Reef
Beef pattie, crispy bacon, fresh grilled pineapple and garlic mayonnaise - $15.50
The burger was nicely presented with a skewer to hold it together, and a row of grilled prawns on the top. It looked very appealing, and my partner liked the beef pattie which was a bit mushy for me. The bread was warm and fresh too.

Chicken Shroomer
grilled chicken breast, big mushroom, caramelised onion and homemade coleslaw - $16.90
This was my order, the coleslaw was supposed to be IN the burger and it was nice! The chicken was a bit dry though but the combination of fresh ingredients was delicious!

Looks like the burgers in this place are more towards the 'gourmet' and healthier side instead of the fatty over-the-top burgers that I was expecting (and looking forward too). It was a pleasant meal, the restaurant was beautiful and the service was great. There was an open kitchen too where you can see the chefs in action.
It is a nice place to dine in too with a wide selection of alcohol and other drinks.

Perth - Sandrino Cafe and Pizzeria

I have a new favourite restaurant, it is Sandrino which is located in Fremantle.
I came across this restaurant about a year ago when the other italian restaurant i frequent was full. From then on, i dont go back to 'that italian' restaurant anymore and i will go here if i want good pasta, pizza or mediterranean food!

This is a good place for lunch too and it gets really crowded, so make a reservation in advance or go on weekdays if you can.
The interior of the restaurant is very spacious yet cosy. There are 2 large wood-fired ovens and an open-kitchen concept where you can see all the magic happening

I could afford one day off work, and brought a friend to this restaurant, telling her all about the 'must try' beef burger which is only available for lunch. The restaurant was quiet as they just opened, and this was very different from the long queues you will see for dinner or weekends.
When we read the menu, i realised they no longer sell the beef burger! I think they might be back on the menu now since it is so popular, but i am not sure, if you do go there for lunch, you have to order that. So although i was a bit disappointed, i went on to order my second favourite dish:

Calamari - dusted with sweet paprika, lightly fried, served with a garden salad and lemon aioli $20
this is my second favourite dish. The serving is very huge although you can't tell from the picture. The flavoursome calamari (seasoned just right) and lightly fried is served on a bed of mixed salad. The combination of the calamari and the salad is divine!

Steak Bianca - grilled steak, garlic, fried onion, mix lettuce and aoili $16 (lunch only)
As the beef burger is not available, my friend ordered this instead. The steak and lettuce were very fresh and I have no doubt that they use the freshest/best ingredients as this is be reflected in their dishes. The chips were roughly cut and crispy. What a nice lunch we had!

I went back again for lunch on a Saturday and the restaurant was full with a queue outside.

Pizza - Fish, Prawns, calamari, chilli mussels and virgin olive oil $20
Their pizza was delightful (as with all of their food). Their homemade woodfired pizza base was light and fluffy. One of their main specialty is bianca bread so be sure to try that next time!

Crab Linguini - Shark Bay crab meat with scallops, tossed with tomato, garlic, basil and olive oil $27

This was just AWESOME. There was generous serving of the crab meat and scallops. The seafood went very well with the slightly tangy and refreshing olive oil, basic, tomato and garlic sauce. It's simple yet the flavour explodes in your mouth! This was their special of the day so I am not sure if they will have it next time.

One of the best restaurant which serves good burgers, pasta, pizza and salads. Highly recommended. Remember to make reservations on weekends! I also have to add that the service is good and fast, and staff are very friendly even though they are really busy.

Perth - Sala Thai and Madmonk

Met up with friends a while back for dinner at Sala Thai in Fremantle. This is only my second time at Sala Thai and I think they serve really good and authentic Thai food.
Reservation is strongly recommended as they are often fully booked.
The interior of the restaurant is very spacious and it gives you an alfresco dining experience although it is indoors.

1) Gang Ped - Red Duck Curry with cherry tomatos and lyches - $27.00
2) Pad Thai - Thin Flat Rice Noodles with Beansprouts, Eggs, Chives, Peanuts and Prawns - $17.80
3) Pla Thod Sum Rods - Deep Fried Whole Fish Topped with Sweet & Spicy Tamarind Chilli Sauce- Market Price
4) Neua Yang Nam Tok - Grilled Marinated Beef served with Spicy Hot Sauce - $21

The duck curry was rich in flavours, really thick curry that went very well with the rice. I love the grilled beef although it is a really simple dish, the taste of the 'grill' was infused into the beef, and the sweet and tangy sauce brought out the flavours, it is one of my favourite dish! The Pad Thai was DIVINE with generous seafood ingredients. The last dish was the fried fish, which the staff offered to debone for us. We could taste the freshness of the fish as it was not overcooked. I think it was deep fried to perfection and the spicy hot sauce which covered the fish was heavenly.
We all enjoyed our dinner. It's obvious that Sala Thai used fresh and good quality ingredients to prepare their dishes which made every dish exquisite. One of the best Thai restaurants I've been to.

Went to Madmonk after dinner for a quick drink and some dessert.
(taken from the website) mild - lower alchol

3.5%, the mad monk mild is a light golden

lager with a fresh saaz hop aroma. crisp and

clean on the palate, the mild recently won

best reduced alcohol at the Perth Royal

Beer Show.
The beer was light and refreshing. Perfect for a cool summer night, there was a hint of sweetness in the aftertaste, i really liked their beers! They serve breakfast and dinner too.

Perth - Aubergine

Weekend is here again, and I was thrilled to go cafe hunting again! Trying out new cafes on Saturday/Sunday morning is starting to be a routine for me, and I look forward to the weekend because of that!

With the convenience of an internet, finding a nice cafe is just a click away. I came across Aubergine and it caught my attention because it is owned by the previous owner of Oriels Cafe, which used to be my favourite hangout before the new management took over.
The cafe was very spacious with a lot of tables and chairs so finding a seat on a Saturday morning was easy. Aubergine exudes a laidback and casual feeling. The service was really fast and efficient. I got the feeling from the happy staff that this place is very well managed which explained the cheerfulness.

Order of the day:
Chai Latte
Eggs Benny with Ham - $15.50
Breakfast Sandwich - $14.50

The Chai Latte was rich in flavour and the cinnamon taste was strong. I ordered the breakfast sandwich which had bacon, grilled tomato, rocket leaves and a sunny side up. The toast was crispy and FRESH unlike the stale overcooked hard bread that most cafes have. This toast was awesome, soft on the inside but lightly fried and crispy on the outside. My partner and I were very impressed with the food.

Aubergine Cafe was very dog friendly as well. Owners sit outside and have their breakfast with their four legged friends beside them! I watch with envy at how well behaved their pooches are, unlike my dogs! The owner loves dogs as well, I saw him come out to pat the dogs outside, and even give them treats! Such a nice friendly guy, no wonder his staff is so cheerful and the customers all look very happy too.

I strongly recommend this cafe which serves good food and coffee!

Perth - Cicerellos

Tomorrow's the first day of Chinese New Year and mffs would like to wish everyone out there Happy Chinese New Year!! Gong Xi Fai Cai!

Cicerellos is no doubt one of the most famous Fish n Chips restaurant in Perth. Its close competitor is Kailis and I like to dine in both restaurants although they do have different specialties. I will go to Cicerellos for their Fish n Chips and Kailis for their grilled seafood. Both restaurants are located beside each other.

On weekends, the alfresco area will be crowded with people and seagulls. Do not leave your food unattended as those seagulls are really quick and aggressive with food!

Keep in mind that Cicerellos don't only sell Fish n Chips and they have a lot of other dishes as well. For tourists/first-timers i will recommend that you share a few dishes so you get to try a bit of everything.

First order - Grilled Garfish with Chips and salad - $19.90 approx
The garfish fillet was thin so it was slightly crispy on the outside It was perfectly cooked although it is easy to overcook fish. The fillets were lightly seasoned so the taste was not overwhelming and it brings out the freshness of the fish.

Order no.2 - 2 Beer Battered Fish fillets (minus the chips because the portion of the chips is INSANE and it will go to waste as it is impossible for one person to finish)
This is what Cicerellos is famous for - their beer battered fish. The batter is golden brown and is very crispy. I find it crispier than Kailis' fish n chips. The fish is also very fresh. I think the fish n chips here is better than Kailis although there is not much difference.

Perth - Australian Day in Fremantle

Australian Day is on 26th January. This marks the anniversary of the arrival of 11 convict ships from Great Britain in Sydney. It is a day widely celebrated by patriotic Australians.

I can feel the joy from these kids, they were having so much fun! Sometimes i wish i'm a kid again.

This was my first time getting icecream from an icecream truck in Australia. I remember in Singapore the icecream man will always be outside acjc and we always buy the icecream wafer from him :)

The lady was so friendly even though the queue was very long but she greeted every kid/icecreamlovingadults with a smile. she even posed for my photo!

We bought the Single Hedgehog (choc + nuts) and Sprinkle Hedgehog (choc + sprinkles)
This was the BEST soft serve i've ever tasted. I love the generous nutty toppings...perfect for a warm summer day.

Then we went to the beach to wait for the fireworks. I didnt watch the skyworks because it will be really crowded. So we made do with the smaller fireworks in Fremantle.

The fireworks were fantastic! I am always amazed by them and we are so lucky in australia as there are a lot of events with fireworks. This was a nice day to celebrate Australian Day and despite a lot of warnings, it was quiet and safe for us. We didn't meet any drunks and the security was really tight. I am looking forward to the next one!
