Singapore - Goodwood Park Taiwan Porridge Buffet

Had a family dinner at Goodwood Park Hotel and for a healthy change, opted for a healthy change from the usual heavy international buffet, and had the taiwan porridge buffet instead. Goodwood Park Hotel's Coffe Lounge long has a reputation in quality taiwan porridge and its accompanying dishes. In fact, I've been coming here for the porridge since i was a little girl! The setting is very cosy and I like the high ceilings.

They have quite a good selection for the buffet which is served ala-carte style. However, they also have a dessert spread at the counter which is ready for selection whenever you want something sweet!

The dessert selection! They included Chinese New Year tidbits for choice too!

My favourite dish was the chilled beancurd in sweet Japanese sauce and pork floss. The rest of the dishes were all good though - sauteed chicken with dried chili, fried baby squid, stir-fried broccoli, wok-fried beef with onions, fried omelette with eggs and prawns etc.

We ordered so much and still manage to finish all with our bowls of porridge because the quality of the food kept us going. And desserts were not forgotten either! The cakes, pastries and fruits were eaten after dinner to satisfy and neutralise the tastebuds.

There was a life classifical performance in the lobby as well!

Singapore - Maxwell Zhen Zhen Porridge

It was early and bright one weekday morning and I was still half awake so headed to Maxwell Market for breakfast, the beloved market place by most working in the CBD area for cheap and good bites. It was too early to eat anything solid so I had an order of a bowl of piping hot chicken porridge instead. Thank goodness there was only a small queue at that hour, about 10mins, as usually if you go during lunch time, the queue for a bowl takes about 30mins since they prepare each order on the spot.

Really cheap for one big bowl of porridge chock full of ingredients! People like to order a plate of yu sheng (boneless raw fish garnished with sesame seeds, spring onions, fried onion bits and a dash of sesame oil and light soy sauce). Prices start from $2 up. There are a few types of porridge (chicken, fish and century egg), and I'd recommend adding an egg for stirring into the porridge.

There were so many pieces of chicken chunks in the porridge that I couldn't finish it. So much for having a light breakfast. The porridge here is cooked the Cantonese style, where the rice is cooked until a semi-solid consistency. One bowl of this leaves you full for the rest of the day!
Photos does not do the porridge justice. It tastes much better than it looks!

Singapore - Teochew Porridge

MissFattyFoodie has been eating too much sinful food and was ordered to eat something healthier, hence, dinner was at a teochew porridge restaurant coffeeshop along Upper Serangoon Road.

There were many different dishes heated and on display for choosing and 7 dishes were chosen for dinner.
Variety of beancurd. Toufu and dried beancurd.

Braised soya-sauced chicken wings. Only mid-joint, makes it more convenient to eat.

Fried Chye poh (salted veg) with egg.

Bittergourd with egg (I don't like Bittergourd but apparently its good)

Stir-Fry Cabbage with dried shrimps. Simple and tasty, I like.

another dish that I liked. Stir-fried french beans. Crunchy and savoury.

Another variety of beancurd.

Simple, healthy and filling meal.

7 dishes to choose from. This is a good meal for detox and healthier than your normal hawker food!
